Volunteer

volunteer characteristics words in shape of heart

“If our hopes of building a better and safer world are to become more than wishful thinking, we will need the engagement of volunteers more than ever.” – Kofi Annan

We believe in the power of volunteering to transform lives. Inspire change with us.

The Crisis Center was nationally recognized by the President of the United States for outstanding volunteer service as a proud recipient of the President’s Community Service Award. We realize that we could not do what we do without the help of our 300+  volunteers who work on the crisis hotline, at our Neat Repeats Resale Shop, and in a number of other roles.  In their own way, each person tirelessly gives of their time, talent and compassion to see the mission accomplished.

We believe that volunteering goes beyond giving.  At CCSS, we envision a place where we’re all rooting for each other; a community where we celebrate the qualities and talents that make each of us unique.  So whether you’re brand new and only have time to volunteer annually, or you’re here weekly answering the Crisis Hotline, we understand that our work would be incomplete and far less powerful without the help of our passionate volunteers.

Available Opportunities:

* 24-Hour Crisis Hotline

* Speakers’ Bureau

Clerical/Office Volunteer

Neat Repeats Resale Shop (Orland Park & Worth locations)

* Due to the nature and the complexity of our services, CCSS prefers a consistent and longer term commitment for volunteers in positions with direct client contact. Positions require completion of 40-Hour Domestic Violence training.

Application and Training Process

To get involved, download and fill out our Volunteer Application . Send your completed application along with any questions you may have to volunteer@crisisctr.org.

You will meet with our volunteer coordinator to determine your fit and learn more about the volunteering process.  All positions require DCFS and IL Criminal Background checks before starting.  CCSS also requires domestic violence training appropriate to the position.  For all volunteers in direct client contact (or Speakers Bureau) a 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training Course is required.  Hotline volunteers receive additional training specific to their tasks.  All non-contact positions will be provided with a DV101 basic training.

40- Hour Domestic Violence training courses are offered twice a year; in the Spring and Fall.  Students will learn about the dynamics of domestic violence, hear from case workers and counselors about on-the-job experience and upon completion, receive their 40-Hour training certificate. The course lasts for 3 weeks Monday-Thursday from 6-9pm. The cost of the course is $150 per person or at a student rate with proof of enrollment.

Next 40-Hour training: Sept 13-Sept 29
